Get to know Will Tang, one of our founding Software Engineers.
I am a Software Engineer working on a bit of everything from apps, tools, infrastructure, data, etc.
Before Treehouse, I was an engineer at LinkedIn for a number of years where I worked on a variety of enterprise products. While LinkedIn was a very fulfilling experience, I couldn’t turn down an opportunity to build something from the ground up alongside a founding team that I have so much respect and admiration for. Thinking about the impact of climate change also concerns me and I’m happy to do my bit that contributes to the cause by nudging people towards electrification and more sustainable life choices.
For me, the work thus far has been quite exciting. I’ve been operating with more autonomy and flexibility than I ever have before, and consequently the most frustrating problems taste a bit sweeter when solved. Discipline is self-enforced, and I generally find more pride in my work when I’m responsible for holding myself accountable.
If I had to pick a project that I’m most proud of, it would be our client API. This was the first time in my career that I built something for users like myself, so I felt an almost sharper sense of what worked and what didn’t. It was also great fun to learn about the ecosystem of specs, frameworks, and tools that so many of the APIs we consume are built on. Our client API is still nascent but I’m excited to see how it will grow and evolve in the future.
We did an EV charger install for my next door neighbors, who have a somewhat complex wire run. The work ended up super clean, and I get to admire it every day when I pass by.
During the winter months, I enjoy skiing and snowboarding. To fill that boardsports-shaped void during the spring and summer (and in the spirit of sustainable propulsion), I’ve been learning to wingfoil. Check back in with me later this year to see if I’m able to get on foil by then!
