TL;DR

We announced today that Treehouse has raised a $16.6M Series A led by Flourish Ventures, with participation from intelligent power management leader Eaton, MassMutual Ventures, Veriten, and InVest and continuing participation from CarMax, Montage Ventures, Acrew Capital, Virta Ventures, Holman, Alumni Ventures, and Invest Detroit.

We’re in the early stages of a seismic energy transition and it’s coming whether we’re ready for it, or not. We urgently need to decarbonize the built environment and electrification is the most expedient path to get us there. And, though our electric grid faces challenges in the next decade, electrification will deliver a more reliable and resilient grid in the long run. Simply put, electrification is an imperative.

Treehouse has built a software-enabled installation platform that aims to solve problems for all of the major stakeholders in electrification and deliver a streamlined install experience for customers, partners, and electricians alike. Since our founding, we have been emphatic in our conviction that the right solution must include both software that streamlines or fully automates quoting, project design, and permitting, as well as ownership of the end-to-end customer journey. With this new funding, we’re expanding our service footprint nationally and deepening our automation capabilities for electrification projects, including major investments in AI.

Some of the largest stakeholders in vital industries are aggregating enormous amounts of demand for electrical services - automotive manufacturers, heat pump and home energy storage manufacturers, utilities, commercial fleets, among others. They are all trying to get new products into homes, and to do so, they rely on local electrical contractors. Every installation of an EV charger or heat pump presents similar questions and challenges. Does this home have capacity for additional electrical load? Is there space in the panel? Can this panel be reconfigured, or do we need a subpanel? Or a service upgrade? Are there other safety or electrical code issues that must be addressed? What’s the best and most cost effective path to run wiring for this installation? Making these decisions requires sending a highly skilled electrician to visit a customer’s home. Depending on the solution, the project may require additional trips to the home or their distributor.

As has been well-documented, we have an acute shortage of electricians in the United States. So as new and more complex electrified products proliferate, these inefficiencies have a compounding cost. More products to learn, new commissioning manuals, more truck rolls. The effects of all of this are disjointed and high-friction customer experiences and an inefficient market that lacks scale, standardization, and price transparency. These challenges put decarbonization goals at risk, and that’s why all of us at Treehouse feel immense urgency to build an intelligent installation platform.

We first delivered instant installation pricing for auto retail partners like CarMax and Holman. In the last year, we’ve expanded our pricing, project design, and permitting automation capabilities to include home energy storage, bi-directional charging, and heat pump electrical work. We’re on the verge of nationwide coverage (we currently have a presence in 40 states) and in the coming months, we’ll announce major new partnerships and software products that will enable partners not just in the electrical trade, but in HVAC and plumbing, too. Treehouse is the smartest way to electrify, and we’re just getting started.

One of the things that we love about the business we’re building at Treehouse is that, at massive scale, it’s the rare ‘disruptive’ business that will be a win-win-win for all stakeholders. Automakers, hardware manufacturers, and utilities will get programs with a safe, standardized approach to installations across vast service territories and real-time visibility into project status. Homeowners will get transparent pricing and turnkey service, accompanied by expert consultation, and peace of mind knowing all work is fully code-compliant. And local electrical contractors will get pre-sold work at fair prices without the need to do unnecessary truck rolls.

If you have a scaled installation program, or you’re a local EC, we’d love to work with you and build an electrified future together. Reach out to us at partners@treehouse.pro or learn more at https://treehouse.pro/.
